From Elizabethan Sanctuary to Aristocratic Enclave, what began in the 1600s as the picturesque Emmanuel Almshouses was transformed in 1897 by Major Pawley. He reimagined the site as an exclusive redbrick oasis for the Victorian political elite, designed to the highest architectural standards.
